                                                      Our Story

Children on the Mend, Inc., was founded in 2000 after I found myself having to navigate the juvenile judicial system when my child made an error in judgment. This was one of the worst feelings I had ever experienced and I vowed then to help other parents who sometimes have children that go astray.

Youth and young adults today feeling alienated by society and are assigned a multitude of labels, most of which to them are unfriendly. They are described as aggressive or anxious, the defiant rebellion, as attention-disorder or emotionless, as unmotivated or un-teachable, drug abusers and dropouts.

Through repeated failures in the home, classroom they have development of destructive habits. At-risk young people have lost faith in the possibilities that await them, if they are unsuccessful in putting their lives together. To help them to be successful our agency provides a caring, inclusive environment that promotes their best effort and reinforces personal respect.

COTM 's goal is to foster a commitment to young people that will promote pro-social friendships, strong interpersonal skills, to develop confidence, skills, a desire to be healthy, become productive law abiding citizens and reassert a sense of hope in the future.

We are a non-profit 501 (c) (3) agency serving economically disadvantaged and homeless youth and their families and youth/young adults within Dallas County.
